Central Phoenix/East Valley Light Rail TransitLocation: Phoenix, Arizona
A $55 million, 3-mile segment of the Central Phoenix/East Valley Light Rail Transit Project. Line Section 2 begins on Camelback Avenue, turns south onto Central Avenue, and runs for 3 miles through a major downtown corridor to McDowell Road. All rail designs conformed with Metro Rail design guidelines and specifications and all roadway and utility improvements complied with City of Phoenix and Maricopa Association of Governments Standards and Specifications.
Rail features include northbound and southbound embedded tracks within a 28-foot track guideway, raised guideway curbs and drainage systems, overhead contact system, control systems ductbanks, cathodic protections systems, and six stations.
The Central Avenue arterial roadway redesign includes new rights-of-way, widening to accommodate the rail guideway located in the middle of the street, a roadway/rail bridge and two pedestrian bridges over the Arizona Canal, new curbs and decorative sidewalks with special landscape and street/pedestrian lighting amenities, intersection redesigns, private property improvement reconfigurations and betterments, storm drainage systems, water and sewer relocations, irrigation systems, traffic signalization, signing and marking plans, and maintenance of traffic plans. In addition to engineering plans, specifications, and estimates, provided design surveys using conventional survey techniques and Cyrax (Leica HDS 2500) equipment that uses 3D laser scanning technology to generate a three-dimensional model of the field conditions.
